Finance, statistics and other things that we love

Isn’t it funny how our mornings set the mood for the rest of the day? Yesterday I had a lousy start of the day! Slept in, no time for breakfast (or coffee!), almost missed the bus to college and arrrggghh! I was a miserable person! Today I got up in time (or at least had time for a coffee), had time to cuddle with my boyfriend before I left, got a ride to college and had plenty of time to wake up - and my day has turned out very good so far! Funny, isn’t it (or maybe just sad)? I’m not a morning person at all (go figure). If anyone has a good idea on how to start the day.. then please share with me..

Figured it was time for a little update, three weeks in to the term. Everything is going well so far and finally it feels like I’ve got everything organised. For me it’s all a matter of getting organised with my life and working out a roster for classes as well as for studies and the gym, before I can settle in properly and focus on the task at hand.

In year three we only have four subjects (in year one and two there are five subjects per term) and I must admit that they require a bit more study time compared to previous terms. The subjects of this term, for me as an ‘hospo’ student, include Finance, Introduction to Statistics, Globalisation in the Hospitality Industry, and Strategic Management. Group assignments as usual but also a few weekly quizzes to be conducted online, in order to keep up with the classes. Finanace and Stats will be the ‘big’ subjects of this term and they provide a good challenge, which is something that I do enjoy. Good to use the mathemathic part of the brain again (just a matter of finding it).

Last week I also got to start my work for the Tourast Scholarship that I received last term, meaning that I will work for the college eight hours per week. I work at the Functions Department as a ‘Training Coordinator’ and so far I just love it! It’s exactly what I want to do: organise, do standards and procedures, and look after staff. I feel blessed to have this opportunity, to work for the college in an area of my interest, and in getting my last year at college paid for. Excellent! Besides, the Functions team is the best team! It really feels like a team, and not just a bunch of hard working, service minded people.

This weekend brings nothing extraordinary for me, as I work both Friday and Saturday (need money, so very happy), but I believe there will be a good party in Sandbar tomorrow night for anyone who’s up for it.

Time to get some homework done, but have a great weekend and thanks for reading,
Pia
